• Eyelid lifts can be performed
either on the upper lids, the lower lids, or both. Neither upper nor lower eyelid lifts should change the appearance or shape
of the eye, unless that is specifically desired.
• The upper eyelid lift is designed
to remove excess skin and puffiness from the upper lid. The incision is placed in the fold of the eyelid and not extended
too far beyond the outer edge of the eye. If it is extended too far, the scar
always will be visible. The procedure can be modified to give a patient either
a conservative change or a deep, dramatic, more contoured, “sculpted” eyelid. This
depends on a patient’s wishes and anatomy and should be discussed with the surgeon BEFORE the surgery.
• The lower eyelid lift removes
excess puffiness. The incision is placed on the inside of the lower lid to help reduce the likelihood of a pulled down lower
eyelid. Rarely is the incision placed under the lower eyelashes any more. It is
not designed to remove wrinkles or excess skin. These are treated more readily
with a light peel or Laser, or even some efficacious eye creams.

• A browlift (also called a forehead lift)
can be performed to lift up drooping eyebrows and/or to soften or minimize lines between the eyebrows or on the forehead.
The older technique used a 10” long incision across the top of the head from ear to ear. It now is performed with an
endoscope which requires only a few 1/2'” long incisions placed behind the hairline, and no hair need be shaved or cut. It often is performed with, or instead of, an upper eyelid lift and should not be
overdone. After the surgery, a patient should look less tired or angry, and
more rested and youthful (not “surprised” or “startled” – the result of the procedure’s
being overdone or poorly done).
