DR. ALBIN PERFORMS APPROXIMATELY 300 FACIAL PROCEDURES EACH YEAR
Cosmetic plastic surgery can be regarded as a craft and as with any craft, the experience, care and time taken by the surgeon will most likely be reflected in the quality of your result.
A “tired look", jowls, sagging cheeks, a deep fold running from the corner of the mouth, loose skin (a ‘turkey-neck’) or vertical ‘cords’ in the neck… any or all of these usually are indications that a facelift/necklift are appropriate to consider. Many patients choose to have this surgery in their late 30s or early 40s to maintain a youthful appearance; others choose to have surgery later - when it will result in a more dramatic change. Changes may be subtle or dramatic depending on a patient’s wishes, anatomy and skin condition. More modern techniques place incisions so they are not noticeable and leave the hairline unchanged. A ‘full facelift’ can include the neck (and some physicians even include the neck, brow and eyelids when using that term).
Understand the ‘Semantics’ of “Facelifts”
In addition to a ‘full facelift’, the term ‘facelift’ can be limited to one or two areas, i.e., neck and/or jowls, sometimes called a ‘mini-facelift’. Additionally, there are less invasive methods for either very limited areas or the entire face and neck. These limited procedures often involve shorter scars, less ‘invasive’ surgery, and shorter operative time. Because there is such diversity in the nomenclature, differences in what each surgeon includes in the ‘amount of time this procedure takes to do’, and the variety in procedures used by different surgeons, you must be sure to discuss your expectations and concerns carefully with your surgeon. No matter which procedure is selected or what it is called, a patient should expect a natural, rested look – not a tight, pulled, distorted appearance, the result of poorly- or hastily- performed surgery.
