Fat Transfer

Fat Transfer is one of the newest, most exciting cosmetic surgery procedures. Put in the right places, very small amounts of fat can reverse the effects of time and give a much more youthful appearance. It’s an incredibly effective procedure by itself or as an adjunct to facial surgery. Notice the faces of young men and women. They are full, rounded, and smooth and if you observe carefully, they have a softness created by subtle, well-dispersed fat. On an older face the hollowed cheeks, eye sockets, temples, and lips appear “deflated”. There’s a harshness caused by the lack of tiny bits of fat.

The newest fat transfer technique prepares your own fat (very small amounts are needed – think in terms of ‘teaspoons’) so it will survive and thrive after surgical implantation. The incision to harvest the fat is 1/8” long; it is put in the desired location with a small needle through a tiny skin opening. Micro-droplets are feathered into sunken areas of the face (or other areas, such as the hands) to fill out depressions caused by the disappearance of fatty tissue. The results are subtle, long lasting – in terms of years (versus months as with any of the fillers currently on the market) – and quite extraordinary.
